Spotify has accused Apple of abusing the power of its App Store to steer customers to its own music-streaming service.
Apple has given Apple Music “an unfair advantage at every turn”, Spotify said yesterday after it filed a competition case with the European Commission.
Spotify owns the world’s most popular music-streaming subscription service, which competes with Apple Music, Google Play Music, Amazon Music and others.
The Swedish company, which floated in New York last year, is valued at $26 billion. The shares closed down 1.3 per cent, or $1.84, at $143.49. Spotify had 96 million paying subscribers at the last count in February, while Apple Music reportedly had 56 million subscribers at the end of 2018.
