Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has, on Thursday, claimed Chelsea and Juventus are in talks over a swap deal involving two central midfielders, Jorginho and Miralem Pjanic.
Jorginho’s Chelsea stint
Jorginho joined Chelsea in the summer of 2018, following in the footsteps of his ex-Napoli manager, Maurizio Sarri, who was in the Blues’ dugout last term.
However, Jorginho, like Sarri, had somewhat of a mixed start to life in England.
One of the Italian’s main issues seemed to be his inability to defend and cope with the physicality of the English game.
This was seemingly made worse by the fact that Jorginho was deployed by Sarri at the base of Chelsea’s midfield, a position N’Golo Kante had, of course, previously excelled in for both club and country.
However, despite his up and down 2018/19, Jorginho clearly demonstrated his ability to control a tie and create chances out of nothing with his sublime passing.
And this term, after becoming more accustomed to the rough and tumble English style, the midfield technician has improved a great deal and is now an integral member of Frank Lampard’s side.
Jorginho on the move?
However, if the above-mentioned report from Romano is true, then the capital giants could be saying goodbye to the 28-year-old in the near future.
Sarri is, obviously, now in charge of Serie A giants, Juventus, and according to Romano, writing in the Guardian, the Italian tactician would like to sign Jorginho once again and is ready to sacrifice Miralem Pjanic to do so.
The report in the Guardian also claims that Juve and Chelsea have begun negotiations about a possible summer swap deal involving the aforementioned pair of midfielders.
But, crucially, it is added that the Bianconeri have also had discussions about Pjanic joining Barcelona or PSG.
