Darren Bent has recently urged Tottenham to sign Bayer Leverkusen standout, Kai Havertz.

Havertz impressing in Germany

Kai Havertz is one of the hottest properties in the Bundesliga and perhaps even Europe right now.

The 20-year-old, described as a mix between German standout’s Michael Ballack and Mesut Ozil, has been lighting up the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen for several seasons now.

Havertz first burst onto the Leverkusen first-team picture back in 2016 and, despite his age, has notched an impressive 140 appearances across all competitions for his club since.

The attack-minded midfielder had a particularly affluent 2018/19 campaign, which saw him bag 17 goals and four assists in 34 league ties.

Havertz had somewhat of a rough patch early in this campaign, but the seven-time capped international has since bounced back and is now in fine form, marking his return to action last weekend with a brace vs Werder Bremen.

Bent urges Tottenham to land Havertz

Unsurprisingly, given his impressive exploits over the last couple of years, Havertz looks to have attracted interest from some European heavyweights.

All of Manchester United, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have been linked with the towering midfielder this season.

The player himself would also, in April, state he is ready to take a big step, which could include moving abroad.

And as mentioned above, one outfit outside of Germany being urged to land Havertz is Tottenham.

Darren Bent, who spent two years on Spurs’ books between 2007-2009, has recently been speaking about the Leverkusen standout.

And Bent is of the view that Havertz would work really well with the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son:

“He’s a very good player and he’s linked with a lot of big clubs around the world so if you can steal him, then what a coup that would be for your club.

“If you can get top players like that, you go and get them.

“His favoured position is a number 10 so that would be perfect because you’re talking about him, Harry Kane and Heung-min Son – I think that would work really, really well.”

Bent even urged Spurs to rip up their transfer sheet and go and take Havertz:

“At times, I know all teams have a transfer structure where they might go: ‘We need defenders, we need midfielders,’ whatever it may be, but sometimes little curveballs get thrown in.

“When a player of such quality all of a sudden gets thrown into the market, you’ve got to rip that transfer sheet up and go: ‘He’s the best player available, we’ve got to take him.’”
